A WANTED MAN

One has to wonder whether or not Reacher will finally manage to reach the woman that he has been heading towards in Virginia.  A Wanted Man starts off immediately from where Worth Dying For finished.

Hitching a ride once again this time from rural Nebraska, Reacher finds himself caught up in a situation not of his making.  Reacher is soon mixed up in not only terrorism and kidnapping but also finds himself working for the US Government with extreme reluctance.  Working with government agencies is not something Reacher relishes even if the FBI person in charge can be considered a female version of himself.  Nothing is what it seems and nobody is telling the truth.

The book is essentially split into two parts.  The first part covers the situation in the car and the crime scene as the agents try to work out with very little information what happened.  The second part covers the agents finally managing to catch up with our erstwhile hero and dealing with another brutal murder.

It is hard to find anything wrong with A Wanted Man and I am not going to even try.  It’s everything that one has come to expect from Lee Child and Reacher.  Fast, furious and utterly absorbing.  If I had any complaints, it would be that I am used to and quite like the way in which Reacher uses a certain amount of violence to get out of his numerous situations.  This does not happen so much in A Wanted Man and whilst it does not bother me so much (it is nice to see him not using violence all the time for a change), I am sure that some of his readers might think otherwise.  The high-octane action is always there and one has come to expect it. 

One of the best things about this latest Reacher novel is the tension (which is palpable) in the car.  Brilliant! Now how long does one have to wait for the next one?
