Elizabeth Haynes’s second novel keeps you hooked until the final twist. It is an enjoyable read on many levels. I learnt about pole dancing, more interesting and complicated that I thought. One of my secret dreams has been to live on a boat, Genevieve, the main protagonist, lives on The Revenge of the Tide a barge that she is renovating. She has finished with her office day work and with her night job at the Barclay Club as a pole dancer.
Her London life behind her Genevieve has a new life. She is taking a year out, paid for by her earnings at the Barclay, to working on her boat in Kent. Genevieve is enjoying the quiet life on the marina and decides to holds a ‘moving in party’ for her new friends as well as her old London mates although the boat is nowhere near finished. The next day she finds a body beside ‘The Revenge of the Tide,’ she recognises the victim, her one time friend and colleague Caddy who failed to show up at the party.
Genevieve won’t admit she knows Caddy because she doesn’t want to reveal her ‘stripper past.’ She is also hiding a package for and protecting someone called Dylan and that ‘The Barclay’ is not an easy place to leave. I look forward to the next Elizabeth Haynes novel.
