The Priest’s Graveyard is a dark suspenseful tale centred around Bosnian refugee Danny Hanson who, whilst a priest, has a dark past and present, until he comes into contact with ex drug addict Renee Gilmore.
A neurotic and obsessive character, the need for revenge and justice fuels her to join with Danny spiralling them both through continual violence to learn more about the demons they face and their pasts.
Whilst not usually the sort of book I would read, I found myself rather hooked on the both incredibly flawed characters and the motivations behind who they were. When coupled with a rather twisted tale of revenge, this book made an interesting but intense read with an ending that matched the stories depth and melancholy feel.
A tale of love, without it conquering all, and self sacrifice, whilst also covering the horrors of war and how it turns people into the worst they can be. This is not for the faint of heart, although it is not specifically graphic, or those who want to see a happily ever after or a full resolution without considering human nature and the need to atone , but for anyone who enjoys dark thriller type suspense will enjoy it.
