A former Customs and Police Officer, Andrew Hill’s first book in a crime series set in the New Forest, where he lived for 30 years, will be published in Spring 2022. An avid reader across the crime genre and regular at crime writing festivals, he now lives in West Sussex and works in property.

The book opens with the killing of a security guard at a South Florida marina. When Sergeant Sergio Vega from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office turns up at the scene, he’s surprised to find representatives from Homeland Security and the Department of Justice onsite. Quite why his crime scene is being invaded by these multiple Federal Agencies may have something to do with the traces of radioactive material found there.

The link to a domestic terrorist group rings alarm bells within the U.N.’s International Security Bureau, so Joe Dempsey steps away from a flight to the U.K. to head down to the Keys with I.S.B.’s Alpha Team member, Grace Eden.

What greets them is a possible situation of nightmare proportions and an anti-government, paramilitary, domestic terror group who may have the power to bring the U.S.A. to its knees. There’s also a family tie to a former colleague of Joe’s, a renegade multimillionaire locked up in an ‘off the books’ prison facility and a ghost from Joe’s past to add complexity to this already heady mix.

As their mission starts to unravel, Dempsey is forced to ask for help from a most unlikely source.

Set in a post-Covid U.S.A., the author has created an authentic, tangible world that is still dealing with the pandemic fallout, using Covid to make plot points.

What greets the reader is a fast-moving, immersive, involving and intricate plot that always flirts with the edge of believe-ability - but is never beyond the realms of reality.

It’s a genuine pleasure to have a copy of Tony Kent’s latest drop on the doormat as I’ve been privileged to read and review all of his previous books.

His characters are well-realized and engaging.

The plotting is masterful, complex and not without a red herring or two. The attention to detail is meticulous and the plausibility is right at the bleeding edge of ‘what if’.

This author’s first book, Killer Intent, set a high benchmark but he just keeps nudging it higher. No Way to Die is an absolute firecracker and is a must read, in my humble opinion.
