Sometimes when things are rough and you need a bit of escapism in your reading, a good, old-fashioned thriller is just the ticket. If that is the case with you, then Andy MCDermott is your man. And, to be honest, you don’t have to be feeling down to read this gripping adventure story.
Alex Reeve is the titular Operative 66. A member of SC9, he is a deadly weapon acting for the UK. Even tougher than an SAS soldier, he and his comrades are ready and prepared to neutralise any threat to Britain. But, hardly has he started on a career in this unit than he is identified as a “red fox”, a rogue asset, a traitor. Suddenly Alex finds himself on the run from his colleagues. Deploying all his finely honed skills, he sets out to find out who has set him up to be marked as a traitor and why.
Along the way he is accidentally run over by a young nurse called Connie Jones who helps him out as he is injured after a nail-biting escape. This leads him to become involved in the world of drugs as Reeve comes under the focus of Albanian-born Valon Bato, kingpin of many shady operations in the English capital. Can our man Alex survive with so many people intent on killing him? And can he keep his new-found saviour Connie free from harm?
I will say no more about the plot but this is a really thrilling story. There are plenty of set pieces, a car chase and being pursued through
