No warnings on this one unless you hate subtitles.
Take a bit of Mission Impossible, a slice of James Bond, a soupçon of Modesty Blaise, and a pinch of Charlie’s Angel(s), and what do you have? Well, Queen Sono: South Africa's biggest budget TV series ever, thanks to Netflix's deep pockets.
Sono (Pearl Thusi) works for a shady South African government agency, and for herself. She wants to avenge the murder of her mother, a freedom fighter/terrorist depending on your point of view. Together with her sidekick Fred (Loyiso Madinga) who is himself out to avenge his family's murder, and his sister's kidnap, they cause mayhem up and down the country, and outside. The dialogue is in at least half a dozen languages, including Swahili, IsiZulu, English and French, hence the subtitles.
Queen Sono is political, subversive, and full of power, corruption and lies, as the saying goes. The villains are Russian, as they so often are these days. It's chocka block with car chases, fist fights, and shoot 'em ups.
Delicious stuff!
