Beating About The Bush

Review written by Elaine Mercer

Agatha Raisin reaches her 30th escapade, but this is my first M.C Beaton novel and I was far from disappointed.

Agatha Raisin runs a private detective agency in the leafy Cotswolds and has been commissioned to investigate a case of industrial espionage. In short order she smells a very overripe kipper and believes she’s being led around by the bridle. Next, we have a murder, passed over as natural causes by the local constabulary. Naturally. Our Agatha is however persistent in her convictions, loud and overbearing and VERY short-tempered!  The game is afoot.

M.C. writes Agatha as the most fearsome female, like a brittle Audrey Fforbes-Hamilton, with exquisite taste in attire and a terrible taste in men - she is truly terrifying.

This book is great fun and the characters are fresh and lively, unexpected for a 30th outing. There are many giggle moments. Looks like I’ll have to go back to her beginning. Enjoy.
