Public Prosecutor Chastity Riley is on her way to work when she is diverted by her boss to a crime scene. A naked man has been found in a cage, outside the main entrance of Hamburg's largest magazine publisher.

She arrives to find the badly beaten and barely conscious, man in a strong padlocked cage. The man is Head of HR at the publisher and not a popular man. Whilst at the scene, she meets her new colleague Ivo Stepanovic (Stepi) from Serious Crime Office 44.

As the investigation proceeds, so does the process of getting to know each other — and then another person turns up in a cage. The second victim is also management at the publisher, and just as unpopular. Does the reason for these crimes lie in the present or the past?

Riley and Stepi journey to southern Germany to find the truth.

For a small book it packs a huge punch. The pace and energy of the writing are enhanced by the short, sometimes very short, chapters. The atmosphere is wonderfully noir and perfect for the hard-living Riley.

This is the second book to feature Chastity Riley. Bring on number three.
