Karen spent 30+ years as a Civil Servant, mostly in Revenue which is where she developed my absolute hatred of poor writing skills! Her favourite genre is now crime/thriller/police procedural/legal genre with the occasional foray into chick-lit and general fiction.
Many years ago Emma shared a cabin at summer camp with three girls who disappeared one night; the camp closed, the case was never solved and has haunted Emma ever since.
Now she has been invited to return to the reopened camp and she sees this as an opportunity to try to find out what really happened and lay the ghosts to rest.
This is a really well written book: the prose and dialogue flows easily, the characters are well drawn and all relevant, the story moves at a wonderful pace - not too fast or slow. The book is full of twists and turns but the author has done a wonderful job of not making them obvious, rather it feels like gentle curves and subtle changes of direction. I was kept guessing until the end and have to say the ending was completely unexpected.
This book is fresh, different, really well plotted and a fantastic read. I am not sure I would describe it as a psychological thriller, however, it will certainly appeal to fans of that genre particularly those who, like me, feel that the offerings in that genre have become quite boring.
