Counsellor, Susanna has a late appointment with a young man, Adam Geraghty. This meeting opens the door to a secret that Susanna has long hidden, and the reason why she abandoned her previous life, all for the love of her daughter.

Adam forces Susanna to confront the truth of her past, exposing her to buried fears as well as threats to her daughter and whilst all the time concealing a fact that will fall on her like the hammer of the gods.

The author offers us a taut head-to-head between the main protagonists, with flashbacks taking us outside, and backwards in time from the confines of Susanna’s consulting room. This device serves the story well, both illuminating and fleshing out the narrative.

This is a tale of two people: a woman tormented by the demons of a past life and doing everything she can to repress them; and a young man determined to force her to confront them, and heap yet more misery.

But why is he so driven to force this denouement?

You’ll have to read this contained, claustrophobic and chilling examination of grief and revenge.
