Robert lives in North East England. He works in Recruitment by day, and is usually to be found knee deep in a pile of books as a reader and reviewer by night. He has recently signed with The Blair Partnership, and his debut crime novel, What Falls Between the Cracks was released in Spring 2018.
It starts innocently enough; a family on holiday, trying to record an anniversary video message, inadvertently capture a terrorist attack with the footage.
If that opening wasn’t dramatic enough, the passer-by helping them with their filming is captured on camera, and turns out to be a witness that the FBI thought died years ago. Special Agent Charlie Thompson is determined to find him, and make him testify; but the organisation he was part of will stop at nothing to silence him for good. With the FBI struggling to find him, Charlie turns to Michael Hendricks, a hit man who targets other assassins. Hendricks has his own axe to grind against the organisation known as “The Council”, but without his help, Charlie risks losing her witness, and with that, the chance to end almost a decade of corruption.
This one starts at a fast pace and doesn’t let up. We’ve got the Charlie Thompson and FBI chasing their witness; ‘The Council’ trying to beat them to the punch; Hendricks working his way through Council employees, driven by a personal vendetta. Then there’s Cameron, a girl with her own reasons for wanting to help Hendricks, but is she in over her head? Chapters zip by like bullets, and there’s no lull in the action to let you catch your breath. Easy to see why this was nominated for the Anthony Award. It’s that kind of relentless action that makes you always wonder whether one of your favourites is about to catch a bullet. Great premise, artfully executed.
