Duncan Forrester returns in The Age of Olympus, the second in this intriguing historical-thriller series.

Gavin Scott’s protagonist is a charming, pragmatic and resourceful man who finds himself in Athens en-route to Crete where he is planning on recovering an ancient stone he discovered during the Second World War.  Almost immediately, the ex-Special Operations Executive finds himself caught up in trouble when he witnesses the murder of a poet, and immediately sets about looking for the culprit. Things spiral and Forrester soon learns that the poet was not the intended victim, but someone whose death could spark civil war.

If you are a fan of historical thrillers then you will love this. He has captured 1940’s Greece brilliantly, and his descriptions of this period were excellent. Gavin Scott has clearly researched this period very well and is able to pull you into that time.  He has created believable and interesting characters that work well together and draw you into this complex and intriguing novel.
