John Parker is a Graduate-qualified English/Spanish Teacher, owner and director of CHAT ENGLISH, an English Language Centre in Avilés on the north coast of Spain . A voracious reader, he has particularly loved horror fiction for many years.
Watch Me is the second Jefferson Winter thriller and takes place beneath
the sweltering Louisiana sun.
A
small-town lawyer, well-respected in the community has been murdered in a most
sadistic way by being first tortured and then burned alive. The event has been
recorded on film and sent to the police.
At their
wits end and unable to fathom who the killer might be and where, Jefferson
Winter, ex-FBI profiler and expert on serial criminals, is called in to help
solve the crime and apprehend the killer before he strikes again. When he is
flown to the small town of Eagle Creek in a private jet; Winter begins to
wonder just who is paying for his services.
But the
clock is ticking and Jefferson is under pressure to deliver as the next victim
is expected to die within the next fourteen hours. So when he comes to the
conclusion that the unsub (unknown
subject) is a cop, things become rather complicated. Who can he
trust?
Carol’s
book is an entertaining read despite the fact that Winter is an irritating
know-it-all at times. The friendship he forms with a young, smart policeman
called Taylor and Hannah, the owner of the guesthouse where he is staying is
charming, funny and believable.
But Watch
Me is not a great novel though the author tries hard. I have a feeling
that many readers will be dissatisfied with the dénouement of the book.
Nevertheless, I am sure that Carol has more to offer and I will be interested
to read his next Jefferson Winter book.
