The Exiled

Sorry, I don’t want to say much about this book except “Read It” and give yourself a chunk of time because you won’t want to put it down.

Wes Raney was an ambitious New York City Narcotics Detective in the 1980’s. However, Wes was developing a drug habit of his own whilst working undercover as he tried to catch a sadistic crime boss. In consequence, he made some bad calls; he lost his career and his family.

Now Raney is the only homicide investigator covering a two-hundred-mile stretch of desert in South West New Mexico. It is 2002, a gruesome murder scene is discovered in an underground bunker. Was this a drug deal gone bad or something else? Soon Raney is forced to confront old demons.

Raney’s character is well developed; he is flawed, hates himself, and is beleaguered by his violent past. Will Raney find any kind of redemption?

The plot and pace are brilliant with twists and turns, secrets and lies, surprises here and there.  All the characters are believable.

Great writing.

I wonder if we will see Wes Raney again?

I hope so.
