This is a novel about abuse.  Plenty of dramatic family abuse, sisters-to-sisters, mothers-to-daughters, husbands-to-wives, and vice versa, but really all of it is self-abuse. Now don’t let that put you off, unless you’re very squeamish, and if you’ve read this far, I take it you’re not.

Nell and Lindsay are sisters. Nell is the successful author of true crime novels, and Lindsay is a serial divorcer, coming out of each marriage, richer. Their mother is doing life after unsuccessfully trying to kill their drunken father by shooting him with a rifle in his La-Z- Boy recliner. Somehow, she managed to only wound. Rather like shooting a fish in a barrel and only hurting the barrel.

Nell started writing about true crimes because her own daughter was kidnapped, never to be seen again.

Easter and Autumn were co-joined sisters at hips and elbows, sliced apart by a Russian surgeon, then re-located to America, the land of the free. Get it?  Then Easter murdered her sister and took on both identities. But is Autumn really dead? Or is she the perpetrator of a series of nasty tricks played on Nell and Lindsay, culminating in attempted murder. Or is it someone else entirely?

Confused? Never mind, it all comes clear.
