Jean-Claude Izzo

As Jean-Claude Izzo was dying in January 2000, bookshops in his native Marseilles filled their windows with editions of his books and closed their doors in silent tribute to this unique man, who, in his profound humanity, his lust for life, and his many contradictions, embodied the soul of his native city.  Marseilles repaid his love, providing him with the rich human dramas that he transformed into a fistful of extraordinary novels.
