R(odney) D(avid) Wingfield was born on 6 June 1928 and died 31 July 2007 of cancer. He is best known for creating the character Detective Inspector Jack Frost who has been played very successfully on television by Sir David Jason. He is also a well-known radio dramatist. R D Wingfield wrote six books in the Frost series. In twenty years he wrote over forty radio mystery plays. FIrst Frost a prequel to the Frost novels has recently been written by James Henry and published in January 2011.
